Bon Secours broke ground on a new urgent care clinic located in the East End Medical Office Building on Nine Mile Road. In response to community need, Bon Secours will establish a team of highly skilled professionals, who specialize in treating minor illnesses and injuries. The urgent care clinic, set to open in early 2024, will treat:

Allergies and Asthma, Earaches, Ear Infections and Swimmer’s Ear. Bug Bites, Spider Bites Stomach Pain, Nausea, Vomiting, Bronchitis, Sore and Strep Throat. Colds, Cough and Flu Sprains, Strains and Minor Fractures, Cuts and Minor Stitches as well as Urinary Tract Infections.

In partnership with PSH+ Architecture and Design and Taylor & Parris Construction, Richmond Community Hospital has started construction on our new MRI suite and patient lobby. The suite will feature the latest MRI technology and is scheduled to be completed in Q1 2024.

Bon Secours Continues Growth of Outpatient Medical Access by Welcoming New Providers

John N. Clore, MD - Richmond Diabetes and Endocrinology

Dr. Clore is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism. For more than thirty years, he has focused his career on the diagnosis and management of persons living with diabetes and the training of providers who care for diabetes. Bon Secours is proud to welcome Dr. Clore to the Richmond Community Medical Office Building, located at 1510 N. 28th St. Dr. Clore and his team will begin seeing new patients December 13, 2023.


Kay Bonyak, DNP, ACNP-BC - Neurology

Kay Bonyak received her diploma in nursing from Butterworth Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree is from the University of Virginia. Bon Secours is proud to welcome Kay Bonyak, DNP, ACNP-BC to the Richmond Community Medical Office Building, located at 1510 N. 28th St. Kay and team will begin seeing new patients October 31, 2023.


Amy Hill, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC – Behavioral Health

Amy began her nursing career in 2010 at VCU Health in the adult trauma unit, seeing firsthand the connection between trauma and mental health. Her advanced training is in assessment, diagnosis, and the treatment of psychiatric disorders across the lifespan. Areas of treatment include bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, anxiety disorders, major depressive disorder, PTSD, and schizophrenia. Amy provides empathetic and compassionate care that respects each person as an individual. Amy will be located in the East End Medical Office Building, located at 1510 N. 28th St., beginning December 5, 2023.


Germaine Kelley-Pope, ARN, PMHNP-BC – Behavioral Health

Germaine is a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with over 14 years behavioral health nursing experience. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing and earned my Master of Science in Nursing degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Germaine has advanced training in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric disorders across the lifespan, and is a dedicated and empathetic provider who believes in providing patient-centered care that respects each patient's unique strengths and challenges. Richmond Community Hospital is proud to welcome Germaine to the East End Medical Office Building, located at 1510 N. 28th St., beginning December 5, 2023.

Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital and Community Health Teams Offer Flu Vaccinations Across the East End

Richmond Community Hospital is hosting a drive-thru and walk-in community flu vaccination clinic on October 21, 2023, between 9:00am and 1:00pm. Vaccinations will be offered by Richmond Community Hospital and wellness clinic nursing teams and are free to all community members. Food trucks and entertainment will be on-site, along with an appearance by 106.5 The Beat.

The Bon Secours East End Community Wellness Clinic offers walk-in flu vaccinations at no charge to the community Monday – Friday (Hours). The IVNA Nursing Team based out of the Wellness Clinic can also provide home based vaccination services for those unable to visit the clinic. To schedule a home-based visit, please call (804) 355-7100 for details.

Now through the end of the year, Bon Secours is offering multiple free vaccination clinics across the East End, for members of local businesses and congregations.

Richmond Community Hospital and Virginia Department of Health Collaborate to Impact East End Patient Care Navigation

This team will address key initiatives directly related to social determinants of health, and barriers to care for patients in the East End. Key focus areas include care navigation, primary care access, and transportation.

Bon Secours Community Health Team Expands with the Addition of two Community Based Clinical Dieticians

Katelyn Barker, MS, RDN Clinical Dietician, Community Health

Katelyn Barker is a community dietitian on the neighborhood engagement and nutrition outreach team at Bon Secours. Katelyn completed her undergraduate and graduate degree at Virginia Tech where she researched the relationship between ultra-processed food intake and perceived cooking self-efficacy. She moved to Richmond in 2021 and completed her dietetic internship at VCU Health where she discovered the challenges of providing vital nutrition education to patients in an in-patient setting. She enjoys sharing her passion for nutrition through cooking classes, nutrition education opportunities, and community engagement in the East End where she believes nutrition interventions can be the most impactful. In her free time, Katelyn likes to hike, rock climb, cook and try new foods.

Nicole Scott, RD Community Dietician, Care-A-Van / Manchester Clinic

Nicole is excited to step into her new role on the Bon Secours community engagement team as a community dietitian for Care-A-Van and Manchester Clinic. Nicole acquired her bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Foods, and Nutrition from Lehman College in 2020. Following graduation, she worked as a dietetic technician in the NICU at New York-Presbyterian Hospital where she helped to open New York City's very first infant feeding preparation area. She moved to Virginia in 2021 and completed her dietetic internship at VCU Health where she worked with many different organizations and patient populations across the metro Richmond area. Outside of work, Nicole enjoys exploring the diverse culinary scene Richmond has to offer and spending time outside at some of the local parks.

Sarah Garland Jones to Host East End Cooking and Conversations Sessions

The Sarah Garland Jones Center is hosting a four-week series that highlights recipes, nutrition, and community engagement. Led by Katelyn Barker, Clinical Dietician, Bon Secours and Chef Romaine May, CCHW Parsley’s Kitchen, the series will focus on diabetes management, and provide insights into healthy meal preparation. Registration for the series is open through October 16, and the program runs through November 2023.

Each year as a part of our contribution back to the communities we serve, Bon Secours makes community investment grants to local nonprofit organizations. These grants impact key areas of community need, including access to health care, behavioral health, affordable housing, and community placemaking, educational achievement and economic equity. Bon Secours was proud to announce the 2023 recipients of the community benefit grant – Shalom Farms, Swim RVA, Challenge Discovery, REAL LIFE, Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity, Urban Hope, FRIENDS Association for Children, Richmond Hill, Inc., Peter Paul Development Center, Neighborhood Resource Center, Retail Advancement Fund, Boys & Girls Club Metro Richmond. Richmond Community Hospital to Add Mural Honoring the Original 21 Founding Physicians

In partnership with Richmond Artist Hamilton Glass, Richmond Community Hospital will re-establish the mixed-media portrait mural within a newly dedicated legacy garden. The work will begin in early October and is scheduled to be completed this fall. Originally designed and displayed outside of the Sarah Garland Jones Center, the new rendition of the artwork will be part of a larger Legacy Garden project honoring the 21 physicians who established the Church Hill Nine Mile Road campus of Richmond Community Hospital in 1980.

Bon Secours is committed to providing ongoing updates to community stakeholders in these sessions, open to members of the East End community.

Bon Secours launches East End Richmond Hypertension Program in collaboration with Dr. Charmaine Elliott

Hypertension is the leading preventable risk factor for cardiovascular disease mortality in the East End of Richmond, disproportionately affecting the African American community. Bon Secours will work with patients between the ages of 18 and 75 diagnosed with hypertension who have visited Dr. Charmaine Elliott’s practice (Primary Care Associates) in the past 12 months focusing on key interventions including:

Medication Management
Monitoring of Labs in three-month periods from baseline
Blood pressure checks at every visit
Lifestyle changes and plans established with Registered Dietician
Smoking Cessation
Social Determinants of Health Screening and
Interventions with Community Health Workers

Richmond Community Hospital partners with Shiloh Baptist Church to provide Community Health Resources

Richmond Community Hospital and Bon Secours Community Health partnered with Reverend Rodney Eaton to host a Community Luncheon and Health Resource fair for members of the Shiloh Baptist Church Faith Community on September 16, 2023. Information was provided to community members on the upcoming urgent care location, mental health resources offered by Bon Secours, and flu shots were offered to those in attendance.

Bon Secours Richmond Community Partnership with City of Richmond Office of Community Wealth Building to host East End Health Care Career Day – October 21, 2023

Bon Secours is partnering with the Office of Community Wealth Building to create pathways to employment in health care for their members and clients. The workgroup is focused on creating training and coaching opportunities for East End residents, that ultimately lead to successful interviews and roles within the Bon Secours ministry. In collaboration with OCWB, Bon Secours will host the East End Health Care Career Day on October 21. Community members will have access to information about career opportunities available in health care. Bon Secours recruiters will also be on-site to provide additional information on job opportunities available in the East End. Free flu shots will be available for all attendees, families can participate in face painting and balloon animals, food trucks will be onsite along with 106.5 The Beat.

Richmond Community Hospital Celebrates the Graduation of the 2023 Inaugural Health Care Explorer’s Camp

Members of the Inaugural Bon Secours Health Care Explorer’s Camp, a collaboration with the Boys and Girls Club, graduated on August 11, 2023. The six-week program led camp members through multiple Bon Secours sites, including Richmond Community Hospital and the Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing. The program exposes youth in the East End to healthcare opportunities and careers, in the hopes of creating future medical professionals and administrators. Creating a healthcare career pathway through equitable concepts that reflect Catholic Social Teaching. Participants learned from health care leaders and caregivers through hands-on interactive activities.

Richmond Community Hospital Participates in Cristo Rey Corporate Work Study Draft Day

On September 6, leaders from Richmond Community Hospital announced our draft selections for the 2023 Cristo Rey Corporate Work Study Experience. Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital will serve as a rotation site for four students from Cristo Rey Richmond High School beginning in September 2023 through May 2024.
