Bon Secours Opens Community Health and Wellness Clinic in the East End

On January 10th, Bon Secours opened a community health and wellness clinic within the East End Medical Office Building. This outpatient walk-in clinic offers community health wellness and prevention services including seasonal, annual, and school readiness vaccinations.

Richmond Community Hospital Beautification Project Begins
Community Partnerships
Bon Secours has confirmed design concepts for a campus-wide beautification project at Richmond Community Hospital. Early stages including a renovation of the hospital chapel, painting buildings to create a cohesive, unified campus look and a community garden are already underway and are expected to be complete this summer. Improvements to the emergency department registration and triage area along with signage upgrades will create an improved patient experience. Bon Secours also remains in discussions to acquire additional property around the campus, allowing for the expansion of Community Greenspace.
Richmond Community Hospital Engages Taylor and Parrish to Begin Construction of New MRI Suite

Following a planning process which began in early 2022, Richmond Community Hospital has completed the design stage and initiated permitting for its new MRI suite expansion. The expansion will ensure patients of the East End community access to the newest MRI technology within Bon Secours’ Richmond market, while also improving the patient experience with the expansion of the main lobby and outpatient patient registration area.

Richmond Community Hospital Adds Full-time Outpatient Cardiology Services

On January 16th, Richmond Community Hospital welcomed Keith Hart, APC, whose outpatient cardiology clinic is available five days a week. He, along with Dr. Warner, also complete inpatient consultations, ensuring patients have access to quality cardiac care when and where they need it.


Bon Secours Signs Agreement to Successfully Remove Patient Transportation Barriers
Community Partnerships
On January 25th, Bon Secours Critical Care Transport entered a contract as a Mutual-Aid Partner with the Richmond Ambulance Authority. Through this partnership, if a delay in patient transport is anticipated, Bon Secours now has the authority to transport patients to ensure they are receiving timely access to the appropriate level of care.
Bon Secours Names New Medical Director of Richmond Community Hospital

On March 7th, Bon Secours named Paula Young, MD, the new Medical Director of Richmond Community Hospital. She will be responsible for clinical services including quality and safety, medical staff privileges and engagement, and support the successful implementation of the Community Today, Community Tomorrow: Pathway to Wellness in the East End plan.

Richmond Community Hospital, Richmond Behavioral Health Authority Developing Plan to Improve Behavioral Health Services in the Emergency Department

Richmond Community Hospital has established plans with RBHA to redesign the Behavioral Health Crisis Triage Center located in the emergency department. New plans will create space for patients in crisis to receive care from behavioral health professionals in a therapeutic setting, while also expanding our ability to provide care for patients seeking emergency services.

Bon Secours Planning for East End Urgent Care Model

Throughout the first quarter of 2023, Bon Secours has explored a variety of options and locations for an urgent care model in the East End. We have identified an ideal space and next steps including continued planning, utilization evaluation, and proposed design concepts, as well as budgeting, are underway.

Bon Secours Forms Workgroup to Help Increase Investments in Minority-Owned Businesses
Community Partnerships
Bon Secours has formed a workgroup including internal stakeholders and community partners focused on strategies and tactics to increase the Ministry's investment in minority-owned businesses. Partners include the City of Richmond, the Metropolitan Business League, and Advantus Health Partners.

Richmond Community Hospital to Host Open House Clinical Hiring Event on April 18th

On April 18th from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital will host an open house at its new East End Medical Office Building at 2603 Nine Mile Road. We’ve worked in partnership with local faith leaders and the City of Richmond to reach community members about this opportunity. This is a walk-in, open house style hiring event where hiring managers will be looking to fill a range of open clinical roles on our campus. On-site interviews and offers will occur, so bring your resumes!

Sarah Garland Jones Center to Host Passport to Wellness Event on April 29th
Community Partnerships
Open to community members, the Passport to Wellness Event on April 29th hosted by the Sarah Garland Jones Center will feature yoga, food, women’s and men’s health education, dentistry, mental health, financial literacy, health, and fitness resources to local community members.

Richmond Community Hospital to Add Outpatient OB/GYN Services to the East End this Summer

Richmond Community Hospital welcomes Samuel Campbell, M.D., whose outpatient OB/GYN clinic will be available on campus five days a week starting in June. In addition to establishing a new outpatient practice, Dr. Campbell will provide consultative services to the RCH emergency department (ED), ensuring access to specialty care in the community.

Richmond Community Hospital is Working to Expand Medical Outpatient Services Through a Multidisciplinary Clinic to be Offered on East End Campus

In the first quarter of 2023, RCH leadership has partnered with the Bon Secours Medical Group to identify space and providers for a multi-disciplinary outpatient clinic model. Anticipated to open in the second quarter of 2023, this clinic will feature a centralized staffing model allowing providers from neurology, general surgery, podiatry, endocrinology, and oncology to provide outpatient care to the community in a dedicated space. We are currently in discussions with providers to establish pulmonary care and behavioral health.

Bon Secours Partners with the East End Boys and Girls Club to Establish a New Summer Health Explorers Program
Training and Education
Richmond Community Hospital, along with other area Bon Secours hospitals and programs, will host a 6-week Healthcare Explorers Program in partnership with the East End Boys and Girls Club. Utilizing our new network of community partners including area schools, the first cohort will launch on July 10 and run through August 11, allowing students to gain exposure in multiple health care settings including imaging, mental health, and basic life safety training and first aid.

Richmond Community Hospital Partners with Capital Area Health Network and Health Brigade to Provide Imaging Services

Richmond Community Hospital is partnering with the Capital Area Health Network and the Health Brigade to establish access to imaging services for patients in the East End community. Teams from each organization worked through the first quarter of 2023 identifying service opportunities and aligning referral processes.

Richmond Community Hospital, Bon Secours Oncology to Establish a Dedicated Cancer Screening Center
Access to Medical Services
A location within Richmond Community Hospital has been identified as the future site and reception area for a Community Cancer Screening Center. We are working closely with Every Woman’s Life and the Bon Secours Oncology team to establish service offerings in addition to mammography, low dose CT, and colonoscopies, all of which are already available to patients today.

Bon Secours Violence Response Team to Expand into Richmond Community Hospital Emergency Department
Prevention and Wellness
The Bon Secours Violence Response Team (VRT), which has been serving the Richmond community for nearly 30 years, is made up of forensic nurses and victim advocates that provide wrap-around care for all victims of violence from the bedside through the transition home. Richmond Community Hospital is partnering with this team to bring a dedicated VRT clinic within our emergency department to better serve the East End community.
