Welcome to the Bon Secours St. Francis Internal Medicine Residency Program in Greenville, South Carolina! We are thrilled to introduce you to our comprehensive and supportive training program that emphasizes both clinical excellence and professional growth.
Our program is designed to build a strong foundation in internal medicine while prioritizing resident well-being through systems that promote effective time management and work-life balance. With regular check-ins and personalized support from our program director and associate program director, we are committed to creating a nurturing and adaptable learning environment where you can thrive. Our dedicated faculty are passionate about teaching, advising and mentoring, ensuring you receive guidance from experienced professionals who are fully invested in your development –whether your path leads to a career in internal medicine or subspecialty training after graduation. We are here to support you every step of the way!
We offer comprehensive clinical training across all major subspecialties, preparing residents to become highly skilled physicians capable of excelling in any setting. With exposure to a diverse patient population that spans urban, suburban and rural communities, you will encounter a wide range of medical conditions and high-acuity cases. Our state-of-the-art facilities – which include nearly 40 ICU beds and specialized services such as open-heart surgery, advanced GI procedures and a comprehensive cancer center – provide an ideal setting for training in complex care. We are dedicated to fostering your sense of inquiry, encouraging you to stay abreast of the latest advancements in healthcare and to integrate evidence-based practices into your clinical decision-making.

Marc Ciesco, DO | Program DirectorMedical School: Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine Dr. Ciesco is a distinguished leader in medical education and practice, currently serving as the discipline co-chair of internal medicine at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, S.C. since October of 2022. In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Ciesco was honored as the VCOM Preceptor of the Year at the VCOM-Carolinas Campus in 2021. He is also active on the Bon Secours St. Francis Sepsis and Mortality Committees and the Carolina Campus Curriculum Committee. In addition to his academic role, Dr. Ciesco practices hospital medicine at Bon Secours Mercy Health in Greenville, S.C, managing complex patient care and fostering effective interdisciplinary collaboration. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Ciesco enjoys practicing Songahm Tae Kwon Do, creative writing, hiking, camping and long-distance running. |
Associate Program Director
Katherine Lumpkin, DOMedical School: Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine Dr. Lumpkin began her attending career as a hospitalist at Bon Secours Mercy Health in 2012. For over a decade, she has remained involved in medical education at Bon Secours teaching VCOM medical students on the inpatient internal medicine rotation as well as offering one-on-one table rounds, noon lectures, Grand Rounds, and monthly Osteopathic Manual Medicine workshops. She transitioned her career from hospitalist medicine to outpatient medicine in 2015. She has worked in almost all phases of patient care including hospice, palliative care, home health, long term acute care, traditional primary care, direct primary care, value based primary care, and Telehealth. She has additional unique experience from her work in Correctional Medicine at the Florida Department of Corrections and Greenville County Jail. She has served as a medical director for multiple hospice companies and has also worked in the medicolegal sector as a malpractice consultant. Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr Lumpkin enjoys painting, music, dance, and time connecting with her family, fur family, and friends. |
