Emergency Departments (EDs) are NOT public COVID testing locations. Please contact your healthcare provider or local health department for COVID testing site locations.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please go to the nearest ED. Patients who are seen in the ED will receive a medical screening examination and a thorough evaluation. Not all patients will receive COVID testing as part of their evaluation in the emergency department.

Vaccination - including a booster for those who are eligible - continues to be the most effective way to protect against COVID.

Since 1977, Rappahannock General Hospital has been bringing quality healthcare services to the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.

We offer quality, state-of-the-art health care in a convenient, friendly setting, a fact that is proven time and time again by our high patient satisfaction scores.

Today, RGH provides a wide array of inpatient services, including acute care and long-term care along with many outpatient programs such as oncology services, physical therapy and more. We also offer a dedicated 10 bed unit for acute psychiatric treatment and stabilization.

RGH is recognized by The Joint Commission as having Primary Stroke Center Certification, which gives us the opportunity to highlight the exceptional stroke care we provide for our patients, and helps us improve care overall for our community.

The hospital’s employees, physicians, and volunteers work together to fulfill our mission of providing excellence in the delivery of health care.

Our Services

Anodyne® Therapy

Our neuropathy treatment program, using the Anodyne® Therapy System, provides effective treatment for pain, numbness and balance impairments associated with peripheral diabetic neuropathy.

Behavioral Health

BSRGH offers a dedicated 10 bed unit for acute psychiatric treatment and stabilization, and 24-hour emergency psychiatric evaluation. Outpatient services allow the opportunity for counseling and group psychotherapy by licensed therapists. The psychiatrist oversees the care of all patients. Program participants range from young adults to elderly patients, set in an environment focused on personal dignity, safety, self-reliance and quality of life.

Cancer Treatment and Education Center

Another invaluable resource to the area, the BSRGH outpatient infusion center, provides more than 4,000 treatments and procedures every year to patients living right here in the community. Opened in 1996, this in-depth program is designed to provide cancer patients and their families the highest quality and most comprehensive treatment available - all in a comfortable setting, close to home.

Emergency Care

Our Emergency Department provides care to individuals with medical, surgical and traumatic emergencies. It is fully staffed 24 hours a day by emergency physicians and registered nurses to provide immediate care to those in need. The Emergency Department is supported by board-certified physicians and the full services of all hospital departments.

Whenever possible, emergency department care is segregated according to the severity of the illness or injury, enabling critical patients to be treated and cared for before noncritical patients.

BSRGH is able to offer patients emergency neurological consults, particularly those suspected of stroke symptoms, through teleneurology services. Through this process, when a potential stroke victim enters the emergency department, the staff is connected to an on-call expert neurologist and a videoconferencing link is established using a mobile unit that can be brought to the patient’s bedside. The consulting neurologist can view diagnostic tests and results and have real-time discussions about course of treatment and patient response. Because of the startling fast and destructive effects of a stroke - the National Stroke Association reports that 1.9 million irreplaceable brain cells are lost every minute during a stroke - time is of the essence, and decreasing the need to transport patients to larger facilities is a tremendous accomplishment for the overall level of health care for the Northern Neck. Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital has received recognition for its work toward achieving the Joint Commission’s Primary Stroke Center Certification, demonstrating its commitment to provide the highest level of care for stroke patients.

Emergency Transportation In the event that our patients need rapid transfer to the next level of specialty care, our on-site helicopter pad permits fast transfer to an advanced medical facility chosen in consultation with you and your doctor. We also have an advanced life support certified ambulance available 24/7.

Low Vision

Low Vision occurs when there is a loss of sight that cannot be corrected by glasses, medicine or surgery. With intervention from a specially trained occupational therapist, people with low vision can learn different ways to continue to do the things they love and need to do in order to live and keep their quality of life.

LSVT® BIG & LOUD

LSVT® BIG & LOUD is an intensive physical therapy exercise and speech program for people with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions. Treatments for the BIG program target the production of larger amplitude whole body functional movements while retraining the sensory awareness of the effort required for normal movement. The LOUD program effectively treats common speech problems associated with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions including soft voice, mumbled speech and hoarse voice. Treatment includes sixteen one-hour therapy sessions over the course of four weeks.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy (OT) services are offered to individuals who have had a decline in function from their normal routines (activities of daily living) or who have developmental disabilities which limit their ability to participate in everyday tasks.
