Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center is proud to announce it has earned accreditation from the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) through the APEx - Accreditation Program for Excellence®. This national recognition underscores the center’s commitment to delivering the highest standards of safety, quality, and patient-centered care in radiation oncology.
ASTRO is the world’s largest radiation oncology society, and APEx is the fastest-growing radiation oncology practice accreditation program in the United States. Achieving this accreditation involves a rigorous, voluntary, multi-step process that evaluates a facility’s adherence to evidence-based, consensus-driven standards of care. It includes a comprehensive self-assessment and an on-site evaluation by a team of experts, including a board-certified radiation oncologist and a medical physicist.
"Our radiation oncology team was invested in evaluating our processes to meet ASTRO's high standards for safety and quality. Achieving APEx accreditation shows our local community that we are dedicated to delivering consistently safe patient-centered cancer care," said Andrew Honeychuck, Administrative Director of Oncology Services at Bon Secours St. Francis.
The Bon Secours St. Francis Radiation Oncology Program offers state-of-the-art technology, personalized treatment planning, and a multidisciplinary care model that supports patients throughout their cancer journey. Equipped with advanced imaging and treatment platforms, the team uses precision-based therapies to target tumors while preserving healthy tissue. Patients benefit from the seamless coordination of care between radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, nurses, and other oncology specialists – all focused on achieving the best possible outcomes.
"ASTRO commends the Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center for achieving APEx accreditation," said Howard M. Sandler, MD, FASTRO, Chair of the ASTRO Board of Directors. "By undergoing this comprehensive review, the facility demonstrated their strong commitment to delivering safe, high-quality radiation oncology services to their patients."
Unlike other accreditation programs, APEx includes a built-in self-assessment that allows practices to benchmark their internal systems and identify opportunities for quality improvement before the formal external review. The APEx framework is grounded in ASTRO’s foundational quality and safety publication, Safety is No Accident: A Framework for Quality Radiation Oncology and Care.
With this accreditation, Bon Secours St. Francis joins a growing network of more than 400 U.S. facilities that have earned the APEx designation, further positioning Greenville as a destination for nationally recognized, patient-focused cancer care.
