The Perinatal Center is a Department of St Mary’s Hospital.
The Bon Secours Perinatal Center is equipped with the most advanced medical technology available. Our highly trained staff of experts includes perinatologists who provide patients with detailed diagnostic services, fetal monitoring, and hands-on inpatient and outpatient consultative services.
What is perinatology?
At Bon Secours, we care for babies from the very beginning, even before they are born. We offer perinatology services, also known as maternal-fetal medicine, that provide compassionate support and state-of-the-art care for mothers who require specialized prenatal care during their pregnancies. Women who are at risk and are thinking about becoming pregnant, or those who are experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, may wish to consider perinatology services at Bon Secours.
What kinds of patients do perinatologists care for?
Perinatologists care for pregnant women who are at risk for complications. This may include women who:
Have an existing medical condition, such as
- Clotting disorders
- Heart disease
- Infectious diseases
- Connective tissue disorders
Have a history of pregnancy complications, such as
- Recurrent pregnancy complications
- Premature labor
- Previous underweight baby
Develop a pregnancy complication, such as

24/7 Computer Imaging
When a baby is born prematurely, or is sick, there is nothing of more concern to a new father or mother than not being able to be with their baby day and night. Even 10 years later, mothers and fathers remember the pain of needing to rest but not wanting to leave their baby’s side. As a part of our overall care and coordination, we started BonSecoursNICU.net. Using computer imaging, mothers who are recovering themselves can see their baby or babies from their own beds, and parents can see babies 24/7 from home. This award-winning program was the first, and is still the only, program of its kind in the state of Virginia. There is no charge for this service.
We offer a variety of services and programs to diagnose and manage high-risk pregnancies. All of our perinatal patients will receive comprehensive prenatal care in one place – right here at Bon Secours Richmond Health System.
