What is Forensic Nursing?

A forensic nurse is a registered nurse with specialized training in collection of evidence, injury identification, detailed documentation, expert witness testimony in court, and consultation with investigative agencies.

Our forensic nurses take a gentle, holistic, and respectful approach to patients. The forensic unit is separate from the Emergency Department to maintain the privacy and dignity of our patients. Our staff can take a detailed patient history, conduct an exam and collect evidence, test for sexually transmitted disease, administer prophylactic treatment, and provide pregnancy testing. Based on the exam results, a forensic nurse can help you get the right treatment and support. Assistance can include health services, a follow up with investigative agencies and pediatricians, and an expert court testimony. Emphasizing continuity of care, our forensic nurses provide case management to their patients, maintaining the relationship created during intake.
