Dr. Yu is a native Virginian. He is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine. He received his bachelor of science in biology from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), attended medical school at Ross University School of Medicine, and completed his residency at VCU School of Medicine. Dr. Yu was chief resident and a recipient of the Renaissance Award for Excellence and the Family Medicine Resident Award for Scholarship. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at VCU.
He has served as a fellow team physician for the Washington Football Team, NFL Combine, Washington Nationals, Potomac Nationals, LPGA Championship, VCU, Marine Corps Marathon, Army Ten-Miler, Reston Triathlon, A10 Track and Field Championship, A10 Men’s Soccer Championship, CAA Women’s Basketball Championship, Special Olympics, and the Washington Ballet. He also completed a Federal Health Policy Internship at the United States Department of Health and Human Services-Health Resources and Services Administration. Prior to these roles, he was a physician at Bon Secours’ urgent care clinic, Good Health Express.
Dr. Yu is a registered musculoskeletal sonographer and has obtained certifications in point-of-care ultrasound. He is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine. Dr. Yu has taught medical students, residents, and fellows from VCU, Georgetown University, Uniformed Services University of the Health Science, and Fort Belvoir. He currently serves on the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors and as a team physician for George Mason University.
