Dr. Stephen Dyar is a native of Inman, SC, attending Chapman High School, Furman University, and the Medical University of South Carolina for his education. Prior to returning to the Upstate, he completed his fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. During his time at Mayo, Dr. Dyar’s research interests centered on treatment of breast cancer as well as palliative care, including several publications in peer-reviewed journals and a presentation at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting in 2011.
Dr. Dyar is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology. He cares for patients with all types of cancers and blood disorders, but has a special interest in treatment of breast cancer and cancer of the genitourinary system, including kidney, prostate, and bladder cancer.
His research efforts at St. Francis are focused on identifying novel medications and treatments for these diseases, and opening clinical trials that give patients access to these compounds before they are available to the general public.
Dr. Dyar serves as the Medical Director for Oncology Operations, overseeing the medical operations of the Cancer Center while working closely with the Cancer Center Program Director and the Administrative Director for Cancer Services at St. Francis.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Dyar enjoys singing in his church choir, playing golf, watching college football, and spending time with his wife and two children.
