Dr. Shashi Prabhakar is board-certified in interventional and general cardiology. As an interventional cardiologist, he has extensive training in percutaneous coronary intervention & cardiac catheterization by both the femoral (groin) and radial (wrist) approach. He also specializes in peripheral vascular disease evaluation and percutaneous intervention in addition to being proficient in diagnostic studies including nuclear imaging, stress testing, echocardiography and vascular studies.
Dr. Prabhakar received his medical degree from Bangalore Medical College, India and went on to complete a residency in internal medicine at GRMERC/Michigan State University where he was also a chief resident. In addition to being on faculty at University of Virginia, he has been involved in basic cardiology research at Virginia Commonwealth University. Â He has completed fellowships in cardiology at East Carolina University and interventional cardiology at Brown University. He has also presented papers in national meetings and published review and basic research articles. Dr. Prabhakar is a member of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI)
