Accepting New Patients
Meet Dr. Wolfe
I treat patients with shoulder, elbow and knee injuries/disorders through physical therapy and rehab. When required, I use a less invasive surgery called arthroscopy. I also perform total knee and shoulder replacements, partial knee replacements, and reverse total shoulders. I am interested in research to discover new surgical techniques, active in the Arthroscopy Assoc. of North America, and the team doc for area high schools.

About
Dr. Shannon M. Wolfe is a member of the Arthroscopy & Sports Medicine Team at Tuckahoe Orthopaedics. He received his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. After completing his internship and residency at Akron City Hospital (now Summa Health System), he was awarded an Arthroscopic Sports Medicine fellowship at Orthopaedic Research of Virginia in Richmond, where he now serves as Fellowship Director. (A fellowship is a specialized year of training that a physician chooses to pursue after completing an orthopedic surgical residency.)
Dr. Wolfe and his team primarily treat shoulder, elbow and knee injuries/disorders. His patients range in age from young high school athletes with traumatic sport injuries, to weekend warriors with traumatic/repetitive injuries, to active seniors with degenerative conditions. He also treats injured workers.
The majority of orthopedic ailments can be treated without surgery through the use of physical therapy and rehabilitation. When surgery is required, a less invasive surgery called arthroscopy is often used. Surgeries such as ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, rotator cuff repair and shoulder stabilizations are a few surgeries facilitated by arthroscopy. Some patients will require more invasive surgery in order to return to a more active lifestyle. Dr. Wolfe performs total knee replacements, partial knee replacements, total shoulder replacements and reverse total shoulder replacements for patients in need.
Dr. Wolfe is active in the Arthroscopy Association of North America. Since joining the practice, he has assumed the role of faculty member and mentor to young orthopaedic surgeons at Orthopaedic Research of Virginia, which is one of the largest Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine fellowship programs on the East Coast.
Dr. Wolfe is interested in research and discovering new and improved surgical techniques. He is a member of the clinical design team for a company who manufactures an implant called the reverse total shoulder replacement. This prosthesis is designed to help patients who have pain from rotator cuff tears that cannot be repaired.
Dr. Wolfe is active in community sports and serves as the Team Physician for area high schools. Dr. Wolfe played Division 1A football for The University of Akron. He believes that this experience helped mold his personality and continues to help him with his professional life.
“The passion I once had for football has been replaced by orthopedics. I have never forgotten a lesson learned from a former coach. It’s not where you are, it’s where you are heading. I am dedicated to this philosophy because I believe optimism can change lives.”
Dr. Wolfe is married and has three children. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing volleyball with his kids, and kiteboarding.

| August 2025 I have been in healthcare for 30 years, and I have worked with a lot of orthopedic doctors in my history, although not in the greater Richmond area and not as a patient, but I must say that the explanation of the x-rays, the discussion of my goals, and the discussion of options was thorough and complete. Very impressive. |
