Rutul Shah, MD earned his medical degree from Pramukhswami Medical College in India. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Coney Island Hospital, Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Shah completed a fellowship in pulmonary critical care from SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York and a fellowship in sleep medicine at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, Burlington, Massachusetts.
Dr. Shah is board certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine, pulmonary disease and sleep medicine. His special interests include the effect of appropriate sleep apnea treatment on outcome of bariatric and other surgical patients.
Dr. Shah provides medical services and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of patients who suffer from various pulmonary disorders, including pneumonia, COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary embolism. He diagnosis and treats patients with sleep disorders, including snoring, sleep apnea, insomnia, hypersomnia and shift work disorder. He also offers evaluation of sleep for commercial drivers and pilots in relation to current FAA regulations. Dr. Shah specializes in procedures such as endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), a non-invasive procedure that aids in the diagnosis and ability to effectively treat conditions, including mediastinal lymphadenopathy and lung cancer. He also provides care for chest tube drainage and thoracentesis for pleural effusions.
Dr. Shah joined TPMG Lung and Sleep Specialists at Newport News, and the opening of TPMG Lung and Sleep Specialists at Harbour View in March 2017. He welcomes new patients to reserve an appointment with him.
