Maynard P. Phelps, DMD
Dr. Phelps was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor under full scholarship, graduating with honors with a degree in Plant Biology. He then completed his dental education at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, earning prestigious scholarships from both the American Dental Association and the Massachusetts Dental Society. With a strong commitment to giving back to his community, he chose to serve as a community health dentist in Charles City, Virginia, for two years after dental school. Dr. Phelps then completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training and earned a Master’s of Science Degree at Ohio State University.
Dr. Phelps is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and the American Dental Association. His scope of practice includes intravenous sedation and general anesthesia, third molar exodontia, dental implantology, orthognathic surgery, maxillofacial trauma and reconstruction, maxillofacial pathology, and TMJ disorders. He has published several abstracts and original manuscripts in peer reviewed journals, including the national journal of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS). Dr. Phelps most recently placed first in an oral abstract competition at the AAOMS national meeting for his research on oral cancer funded by the American Cancer Society.
Dr. Phelps met his wife, Dr. Joy Phelps, while in dental school. She is a Pediatric Dentist who practices in Hampton, Virginia. In his free time, Dr. Phelps enjoys gardening and other outdoor activities, traveling, and spending time with his wife and four children.
