Dr. McFarland was born in Cleveland, Ohio but has lived most of her life in South Carolina. She is the daughter of physicians and has wanted to be a physician since the age of eight. Dr. McFarland received a bachelor of science from the University of South Carolina in 1991 and a Medical Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 1995. In 1998, she completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she received the award for most outstanding Internal Medicine Resident in 1997.
Dr. McFarland has previously worked in medical education and holds the rank of Associate Professor of Medicine with the University of South Carolina. She has been board certified in Internal Medicine since 1998 and was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 2010. After working in academic medicine, Dr. McFarland worked for the Greenville Outpatient Veterans Clinic serving Upstate Veterans and focusing on primary care.
Dr. McFarland considers practicing medicine an honor and takes seriously the unique privilege that physicians have to work together with patients to improve their health. She enjoys focusing on disease management including diabetes, hypertension, congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive lung disease. In her spare time, Dr. McFarland enjoys reading, music and family. She is married and has three boys, two dogs and a cat.
