Jonathan D. Eisner, MD, FACG, is a fellowship trained, board certified gastroenterologist specializing in the treatment and management of gastrointestinal diseases.
Dr. Eisner earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, graduating magna cum laude. He earned his Doctor of Medicine with honors from SUNY-Health Science Center in Brooklyn, New York and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill. He also received further specialized training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas where he completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology.
From a young age, Dr. Eisner knew he wanted to pursue a career in medicine and continues to enjoy the challenge of creating comprehensive treatment plans for his patients based on a variety of clinical factors. His undergraduate degree in psychology served as the foundation for his unique holistic approach and subsequent training.
His initial interest in choosing the subspecialty field of gastroenterology stems from the variety and depth of medical knowledge combined with the intersection between multiple medical specialties. To this day, he enjoys educating his patients about their conditions and the opportunity to collaborate with other specialties to provide the most complete care for his patients.
Although he treats patients with gastrointestinal (GI) conditions, he also has a special interest in colorectal polyps and cancer prevention, inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), and anemia resulting from GI bleeding.
Dr. Eisner was the first fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology on the lower Peninsula and is currently a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Gastrointestinal Association. He is honored to have been chosen as the course director of the American College of Gastroenterology’s regional post-graduate course, the second largest post-graduate course in the country, for two consecutive years.
Dr. Eisner is a well-respected physician in his field and has been serving the Hampton Roads community for more than 25 years. He has been recognized on numerous occasions in a variety of publications including U.S. News and World Report, Coastal Virginia Magazine as a “Top Doc”, and America’s Top Doctor.
Outside of the office, Dr. Eisner enjoys writing and playing music, bicycling, boating, and travel photography. He is married with two children and looks forward to continuing to serve the lower Peninsula for years to come.
