John S. Liu, FACS, MD
Dr. Liu earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA in 1991 after receiving his bachelor of science degree cum laude, from Duke University in Durham, NC in 1987. After serving his internship and residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Dr. Liu joined Urology Associates of Tidewater in 1997, which subsequently merged with several other urology practices in the Hampton Roads area to form the current Urology of Virginia.
Dr. Liu is passionate about the new practice. “We have a great group of colleagues. We are constantly learning from each other and striving to deliver the best possible urologic care to our patients in order to improve the quality of their lives”.
Dr. Liu has an interest in all aspects of urologic care which include: benign prostate diseases, urinary stone diseases, urinary incontinence, urologic cancer diagnoses and treatment, infectious diseases of the urinary tract, and erectile dysfunction. He has expertise in the use of lasers for BPH and stone diseases, and also performing minimally invasive endoscopic procedures and laparoscopic surgery of the kidney.
Dr. Liu enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. Together they enjoy travel, hiking, sporting events and classical music.
Dr. Liu is a diplomat of the American Board of Urology and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Urological Association, Societe Internationale d’Urologie, Tidewater Urologic Association, American Medical Association, Virginia Medical Society, and the Chesapeake Medical Society.
