James A. McCoig, MD
Dr. McCoig received his undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond, graduating in 1981 with a BS degree in Biology, and his medical degree from the University of Virginia. He completed his internship at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and completed his Orthopaedic Residency at the University of Virginia.
For the past 16 years Dr. McCoig and his wife operated a solo Orthopaedic practice, Highland Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Alleghany County, Virginia. He has served on the medical executive committee, the Board of Trustees and as Chief of Surgery at HCA Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital.
Board certified in general orthopaedics with a focus in sports medicine and joint reconstruction. Dr. McCoig is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Medical Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. McCoig was born in Norton, Virginia and grew up in Newport News, where he still has family. Dr. McCoig and his wife Mary have four children and have relocated to the area to enjoy all the Northern Neck has to offer. His interests include cycling, snow skiing, blues guitar and most of all sailing with his wife
