Meet Gregory

Growing up as an athlete, I have experienced several orthopedic injuries. After deciding on a career in medicine, orthopedic surgery became the natural choice. My wife and I moved to Richmond for our residencies at VCU. During my Pediatric Orthopedics fellowship in Orlando, we decided to return to Richmond. I treat all pediatric musculoskeletal conditions including trauma, scoliosis, sports injuries, hip conditions, and congenital deformities.

About

Dr. Gregory Hale is a member of the Pediatric Team at Bon Secours – Tuckahoe Orthopedics.

He received his medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine. He completed both his internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University, previously known as Medical College of Virginia. From there, he advanced to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando, FL, where he completed subspecialty fellowship training in Pediatric Orthopaedics.

Dr. Hale and his medical staff treat children with injuries, diseases, and conditions of the musculoskeletal system. He devotes his practice entirely to children ranging in age from newborns to 21 years.

He is trained to treat any orthopaedic condition involving children and is especially interested in complex hip deformities, scoliosis, congenital deformities, and pediatric orthopaedic trauma. Many of his
patients benefit from conservative treatments and less invasive surgeries. When surgery is required, he offers the most up-to-date surgical procedures.

He participates in orthopaedic research. He has published papers and co-wrote a book chapter addressing Pediatric Orthopaedic trauma of the pelvis, hip, femur, and knee. His research has addressed reducing blood loss during complex hip procedures and reducing the risk of infection in scoliosis surgery in children. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Virginia Orthopaedic Society, and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

Dr. Hale has been involved with the World Pediatric Project performing scoliosis surgery. The World Pediatric Project is an organization that offers critical care services to children in the Caribbean and Central America.

Dr. Hale grew up in Morristown, New Jersey. He is a graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science in Pre Medicine and a minor in Psychology. He enjoys spending time with his wife Luanne, who is a pediatrician in the Richmond area and their two sons.

He and his family enjoy traveling, especially to Disney World, where he and Luanne got married. He is a devoted sports fan with a special interest in basketball, football, and European soccer leagues. In his previous life, he was an all-state soccer player and still enjoys exercising and playing sports recreationally.

Dr. Hale was WONDERFUL! He provided information, and reassured us that the issue would resolve with growth and did not require further intervention. He explained how the problem presents and why natural development is the best course of action. He answered all of my daughter's questions and was easy for her to talk with.

My daughter said she felt listened to and actually said he was one of her favorite doctors. She asked questions and he explained everything to her. Wonderful experience. Wish he could see for all her ortho needs.

I have 3 children and this is the 4th bone break in our family. I have always appreciated the care at Tuckahoe Orthopedics but Dr Hale was the best we've seen. He was very knowledgeable about my daughter's fracture (like all your physicians have been in the past) however he showed extra care because she was an athlete. He didn't dismiss my concerns over her soccer travel team and how this would affect her season. He was kind and listened to me and worked me with me to get her in to be seen in 2 weeks for follow up rather than 3 to see if she could play a tournament,
