Accepting New Patients

Meet Chay

I am currently working alongside Dr. Koch in sports medicine at Bon Secours Piedmont Orthopedics. I am a transplant from Columbia, SC and have been in sports medicine as a PA since 2016. I was a diving student athlete and continue to enjoy being active despite various injuries, which allows me to be more empathetic with patients. I love interacting with our patients and watching them improve.

All went well
August 2025
When she came in and introduced herself she asked what I was dealing with on my pain and listened to my review of my history dealing with my knee pain. She did an exam to identify exactly what and where I am in need of treatment. The second she started going over my x-rays she made everything very clear and made sure I knew what was going on inside my knees. She then started to go over all the possible treatments and what each one would do for me and an estimate on how long it would last. She made sure to tell me the side effects that might happen with my diabetes. She listed to my concerns and answered all my questions making sure I was making an informed decision. After a decision was made she went over what steps we would take to get the treatment done as quickly as possible. I could not have been more pleased with how she treated me and talked to me making sure I knew what was going on and gave me the choices and then I chose how to proceed.

Chay Shipley is one of my favorite care providers at Piedmont Orthopedics. She is a very accomplished Physician's Assistant. She also possesses qualities that enhance her ability to both help her patients, as well as make them feel confident, and glad, about returning to see her. She is sweet, kind, and is interested in each patient's well-being. She is willing to show them the respect of including them in making decisions about their own care, as she again did for me during this last visit. She offers options, rather than demands, is straightforward but soft spoken, and is a provider worth having and keeping. In my opinion she greatly enhances the team at Piedmont Orthopedics. When she gives me an injection, she takes the time to very carefully locate and mark the exact spot where it is needed. Then she thoroughly preps the area before proceeding with the shot. I won't say there is no pain when the medication flows in, but her skill with the needle makes the experience a positive one rather than negative.I appreciate Chay's heart of caring and her compassion for those who come to her seeking her expertise as a PA. And, as a bonus, her patients find that in her they have gained a genuinely nice person and friend to walk the process with them.
