Dr. Carmody is a graduate of the University of Dallas and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed an internship and a five-year general surgery residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., followed by a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the Medical College of Virginia.
Prior to joining Commonwealth Surgeons, he achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel and served as chief of advanced laparoscopic surgery, director of the Surgical Weight Loss Program, and associate program director for the General Surgery Residency Program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. From 2003 to 2004, he completed a tour of duty with the 28th Combat Support Hospital and the 912th Forward Surgical Team in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He is board certified in general surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Carmody has published more than a dozen peer-reviewed articles and chapters.
