Bradley C. Carofino, MD
Dr. Brad Carofino is originally from Litchfield, Connecticut. His undergraduate education was at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachussetts. He then attended medical school and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Carofino completed two additional years of specialized training in upper extremity surgery. He performed a Hand Surgery Fellowship at the renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He also performed a Shoulder & Elbow surgery fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle with Dr. Rick Matsen who is one of the pioneers of shoulder surgery in the United Sates. Dr. Carofino is the only surgeon in Hampton Roads who has completed a dedicated Shoulder & Elbow surgery fellowship.
Dr. Carofino has specialized training in shoulder surgery including minimally invasive arthroscopic rotatory cuff repairs, total shoulder replacements and the reverse shoulder replacement. He also has experience caring for athletes with shoulder injuries such as dislocations. Dr. Carofino also treats all disorders of the hand and wrist including carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis. He performs complex elbow procedures such as total elbow replacement and elbow arthroscopy.
Dr. Carofino has been active in research throughout his career and continues to conduct clinical research in order to provide cutting edge treatment for his patients. He has published in several orthopaedic surgery journals, presented his research at national meetings and serves as a reviewer for the journal Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research.
Dr. Carofino cares for patients from throughout the Hampton Roads region as well as North Carolina. He sees patients in the Virginia Beach and Chesapeake offices.
He also volunteers his time to see uninsured patients at the Chesapeake Care Clinic, because he believes the needs of the patient should always come first.
Above all else, Dr. Carofino enjoys spending time with his wife Katy and their three young children. He is a passionate but terrible golfer, and also likes to surf, jog and coach youth sports.
