Arthur Warren Wardell was born and raised in New York. He graduated from Cornell University in 1971. In 1975, he earned his M.D. degree from Cornell Medical College. His specialty training took him to the University of Michigan and the University of Rochester. Dr. Wardell has practiced in Tidewater since 1980. In 2004, he founded Wardell Orthopaedics.
He has been active in many medical staff roles, serving as President of the Medical Staff of Portsmouth General Hospital in the 1990’s. He has taught at Old Dominion University and Eastern Virginia Medical School. He has served as team physician for local high schools. He lives in the Harbour View section of Suffolk. He met his wife Janet in sixth grade but waited before he married her. They have three daughters and nine grandchildren. All of them look like him.
