April Ashworth, AGPCNPBC
April Ashworth joined The Liver Institute in May of 2019. Prior to joining the practice, she worked as a Nurse Practitioner at The Coleman Institute specalizing in primary care along with outpatient drug and alcohol detoxification. She has experience with acute and chronic liver disease which she gained while working as a liver transplant coordinator for 14 years at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems. She was involved with clinical research and has been active in several publications. Additional experience includes; working as a registered nurse in the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit, Burn Unit and Brain Injury Rehabilitation. A Pennsylvania native, she earned her undergraduate nursing degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care at Virginia Commonwealth University. In her current position at The Liver Institute she treats a variety of hepatic issues including chronic hepatitis C, fatty liver, PBC, PSC, hepatitis B and pre-and post liver transplant patients. She is an active member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease. In her spare time, she enjoys scuba diving, underwater photography, mountain biking and snow skiing.
