Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital has opened a newly expanded radiation oncology suite on its campus that features advanced radiation therapy technology, including a linear accelerator with Varian HyperSight imaging. The opening marks a key step in the hospital’s ongoing $370 million transformation to modernize patient care through a new Critical Care Tower and expand access to advanced cancer services across the Richmond region.
The imaging technology allows clinicians to see tumors and surrounding tissue with greater clarity during treatment, improving targeting accuracy and enabling real-time adjustments to care plans. By producing high-quality images within the treatment workflow, the system reduces the need for separate imaging appointments and helps streamline the overall treatment process. Faster image acquisition also reduces the time patients need to hold their breath during scans, improving comfort throughout treatment sessions.
“This new clinic represents an important step forward in our commitment to expanding high-quality, compassionate care across Richmond and beyond,” said Bryan Lee, president, St. Mary’s Hospital. “A larger space paired with advanced radiation therapy technology including next-generation imaging capabilities allows our care teams to deliver more precise, personalized treatment while improving the overall experience for our patients.”
The expanded radiation oncology suite totals 10,700 square feet of state-of-the-art clinical space, including two imaging rooms housing one linear accelerator with Varian HyperSight technology and a CT simulator, four exam rooms, a dedicated registration and waiting area, and additional office and support spaces. Designed to improve patient flow, privacy and comfort, the expansion enhances operational efficiency while creating a more supportive environment for patients receiving cancer care. The is now located at 5875 Bremo Road, MOB South, Suite G2, on the St. Mary’s Hospital campus.
Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and continues to serve as a tertiary and quaternary referral center within the Bon Secours Richmond market, providing advanced specialty care for patients across central Virginia and beyond. The suite opening represents a key step in the hospital’s broader $370 million campus transformation, including the construction of an eight-story Critical Care Tower. Once complete, the project will modernize infrastructure and strengthen centers of excellence in cardiology, neurology, oncology, neonatology and intensive care.
