Bon Secours leaders and associates joined together today for a ceremonial wall breaking on a renovation and expansion for Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center in Hanover County. The 48,000 square foot expansion will establish a West Pavilion, and along with a renovation of existing hospital space, will increase capacity by 44 beds with a new 11-bed ICU and 33 medical/surgical beds.

“We are thrilled to kick off this 44-bed expansion and renovation at Memorial Regional which has been many years in the making. This is a major milestone in our pursuit to better meet the growing needs of the community in Hanover County,” said Leigh Sewell, president, Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center. “We look forward to opening the West Pavilion and continuing to provide quality, compassionate care for this community well into the future.”

Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center is located in Hanover County, just a half mile west of Interstate 295, which connects the larger regions of Hampton Roads, New Kent County, Richmond and Henrico County. The expansion directly addresses the fast-growing demand for health care services from residents of the hospital’s service area in particular, Hanover County, eastern Henrico County and the Northern Neck. It will provide patients with increased access to the hospital’s innovative resources, outstanding clinical staff and exceptional patient care.

The 44-bed expansion and renovation will increase the hospital’s capacity to a total of 269 acute care beds, which will include the following:

  • Expansion of intensive care beds from 24 to 35 beds, including a new dedicated 11-bed intensive care unit
  • Expansion of medical/surgical beds from 185 to 218 beds
  • Creation of West Pavilion, featuring new inpatient units for Orthopedics and Neurosciences

This $48.5 million expansion received COPN approval in 2020. The West Pavilion is expected to open in late 2022, while the entire project which includes the renovation of existing hospital space, is expected to be complete in early 2023. The West Pavilion will be established in the space formerly occupied by Sheltering Arms.
