Bon Secours Hampton Roads announces the hire of two leaders to the market’s community health team. The community health team manages community outreach programs in Hampton Roads as well as partner with community leaders to offer help where and when it's needed.

Phyllita Bolden is the new community health director for Bon Secours Hampton Roads, and Arnel Rodriguez is the new supervisor of the Bon Secours Hampton Roads Care-A-Van, a free mobile medical service that provides general medical care to uninsured adults and children in Hampton Roads who do not have access to health care services.

Bolden joins Bon Secours Hampton Roads after working five years with United Health Care in community relations. Prior to that, Bolden has more than a decade of experience in health care, as she worked for St. Christopher’s Hospitals in Philadelphia and with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. She has vast experience in community partnerships, outreach and health education programming.

“There are many factors that contribute to the health of a population, and I look forward to collaborating with our community partners and residents to identify sustainable solutions to improve the overall health of our communities,” Bolden said. “I’m excited to join Bon Secours Hampton Roads where I know the work I do each and every day impacts the lives of our neighbors.”

Rodriguez has been with Bon Secours Hampton Roads for 10 years. Prior to taking on this new role, he served as a professional staff development specialist in glycemic control and diabetes education at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va. Rodriguez specializes his health care practice in diabetes education and is a registered nurse and on a path to his RN to BSN program.

“Phyllita and Arnel are both proven servant leaders with a track record of establishing strong relationships with patients and with community partners,” Pat Davis-Hagens, president of Bon Secours Hampton Roads. “I am pleased they have chosen to take on these roles in Hampton Roads. We will benefit greatly from their knowledge, passion for community health care and the energy they will bring to advancing our Mission.”
