- Stephen Brawley, MD PhD joins EVMS Portsmouth Family Medicine after retiring as a Captain in the United States Navy where he received three Navy Commendation Medals and two Navy Achievement Medals. Dr. Brawley graduated with honors from the US Naval Academy with a Bachelors of Science in Aerospace and received the Arleigh Burke Scholarship to attend Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He completed a PhD in Aeronautics and received the Admiral Wilkinson Fellowship in Aerospace. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School in Dallas Texas and completed a fellow medicine residency at the Naval Hospital in Camp Lejeune, NC. He later completed a Family Medicine Faculty Development Fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill, NC. Dr. Brawley is board certified in Family Medicine.
