Dr. Rob Nelson, Jr. earned his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He completed his surgery internship and urology residency at Indiana University Medical Center before coming to Richmond to practice urology in 1998. Dr. Rob Nelson’s interests include urologic oncology, robotic prostatectomy, robotic nephrectomy, and general urology.
Dr. Nelson was Richmond’s pioneer in robotic radical prostatectomy (da Vinci) and to date has performed the largest number of these procedures in central Virginia. He is active in the community raising awareness for prostate cancer and believes screening saves lives. In his down time, Dr. Nelson enjoys fishing and golf. He is an active member of Richmond Academy of Medicine and is certified by the American Board of Urology.
