Dr. N. A. Barot was valedictorian of his class at a local school, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, after which he attended the College of William & Mary and Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). After completing his neurology training at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Dr. Barot went on to a sleep medicine fellowship at the Stanford University Sleep Center of Excellence, one of the world's premier sleep centers. There he trained under the foremost leaders in sleep medicine, including the pioneers of research regarding the major sleep disorders (sleep apnea, pediatric sleep disorders, restless legs syndrome, narcolepsy and insomnia) and their treatment, i.e. sleep surgery and sleep dentistry.
Dr. Barot is board-certified in both Neurology and Sleep Medicine and is an Assistant Professor at EVMS. He is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Additionally, he has written several chapters in authoritative sleep medicine textbooks and has plans to continue academic publications.
