Dr. I. A. Barot graduated from the Seven-Year Honors Program in Medicine via Old Dominion University/Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), continuing to complete neurology training at the University of Miami Hospitals & Clinics. He was fellowship-trained in sleep medicine via the Yale University School of Medicine and returned to Hampton Roads as the first sleep fellowship-trained specialist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He was bestowed the title of Fellow by the Royal Society of Medicine and has received the Patients' Choice Award, America's Top Physicians Award and America's Most Compassionate Physicians Award on multiple occasions.
Dr. Barot is board-certified in both Neurology and Sleep Medicine and serves as both an Associate Professor and on the Board of Visitors of Eastern Virginia Medical School. He has been elected as both a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).
