Eric J. Freeman, MD, FCCP, serves as medical director of respiratory therapy at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth and as chair of the hospital’s critical care committee. He is also on the community faculty as an assistant professor for clinical medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va.
Dr. Freeman holds a bachelor’s degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va., where he also completed an internship and served a residency. He earned a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the George Washington University Hospital & Veterans Administration Hospital Program in Washington, D.C. He also served in the U.S. Navy as a medical officer.
Dr. Freeman is certified by the National Boards for Medicine. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and of Pulmonary Medicine of America. He is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, and also a member of the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Physicians, the Virginia Thoracic Society and the National Association of Medical Directors for Respiratory Care. He is also certified by the U.S. government to evaluate chest x-rays for occupational lung disease.
