Agnieszka E. Petersen, MD, is board certified in pulmonology, critical care, and internal medicine. Dr. Petersen specializes in the treatment and management of disorders of the respiratory system, including the lungs, upper airways, thoracic cavity, and chest wall. She diagnoses and treats patients who suffer from lung diseases including asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD), emphysema, lung cancer, and interstitial and occupational lung diseases.
Dr. Petersen earned her medical degree from the Medical University of Gdansk in Gdansk, Poland and completed her internal medicine residency and fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Yale University Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut. Dr. Petersen completed a second fellowship in critical care medicine at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine Montefiore Hospital in New York. Additionally, she was an Intensivist at Yale New Haven Hospital and held a faculty appointment as a Clinical Instructor at the Yale School of Medicine for three years.
With dual training in pulmonary and critical care medicine, Dr. Petersen has extensive experience managing intensive care units, as well as expertise in respiratory failure and life-saving interventions, such as mechanical ventilation. Dr. Petersen enjoys managing the unique set of challenges the pulmonology specialty offers and has a special interest in treating interstitial lung diseases including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), pulmonary fibrosis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), sarcoidosis, and complex pulmonary disorders including occupational lung disease.
As a pulmonologist, Dr. Petersen seeks to educate her patients on their specific conditions by developing comprehensive treatment plans and providing compassionate care using the latest medical evidence and research available in pulmonary medicine.
Dr. Petersen is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and a member of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). She is also a member of the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
