Six Bon Secours hospitals have been awarded an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group’s spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. Of the six hospitals, two hospitals are located in the Bon Secours Greenville market, two are located in the Bon Secours Richmond market and two are located in the Bon Secours Hampton Roads market. The designation recognizes the hospitals’ efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety. The Safety Grade assigns a letter grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.
The Bon Secours Greenville hospitals receiving an ‘A’ hospital safety grade include Bon Secours St. Francis Eastside and Bon Secours St. Francis Downtown. In the Bon Secours Richmond market, Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond and Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian received an ‘A’ hospital safety grade. In addition, the Bon Secours Hampton Roads market hospitals receiving an ‘A’ hospital safety grade include Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News and Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth.

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

St. Francis Eastside, St. Francis Downtown, St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, Mary Immaculate Hospital and Maryview Medical Center were awarded ‘A’ grades today, when Leapfrog announced grades for the spring 2021 update.
