World-class surgeons utilize leading-edge technology with unmatched precision at the
Bon Secours Heart & Vascular Institute.

Transmyocardial Laser Revascularization

Our surgeons were among the first in the nation to utilize this technology to aid patients with severe chronic angina. TMR offers an alternative technique to patients with severe and diffuse blockages in the coronary arteries. Many of these patients have had prior attempts at controlling their symptoms with other treatment techniques without relief.

TMR utilizes a laser to make 1 millimeter channels in the heart muscle to bring more blood and oxygen to the deprived regions of the heart. Patients with severe angina and reasonable heart function who are not candidates for the traditional approaches like angioplasty or bypass surgery can frequently be helped by this technique.
