Dr. Patel attended State University of New York for his undergraduate degree. He received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine and pediatric residency at Stony Brook University Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Patel completed a rheumatology fellowship in both adult and pediatric rheumatology at the University of Pittsburgh and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Dr. Patel is boardcertified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics.

He has published articles in medical journals on the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. He also has a special interest in juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and localized scleroderma
