William D. Brickhouse, MD, specializes in knee and hip-related issues, as well as other general orthopaedic conditions. He also has years of experience identifying and treating work-related musculoskeletal injuries. This well-known orthopaedic surgeon sees patients at our West End and Southside locations. Dr. Brickhouse is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has been in private practice since 1983 and joined Advanced Orthopaedic Centers in 1993. He has served as Secretary, President, and Chair of the Quality and Peer Review Committees at Advanced Orthopaedics.
A member of the Spine Disorder Center, Dr. Adam Crowl performs nerve decompression surgery and fusion surgery to treat degenerative, congenital and traumatic disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines. The conditions he treats include spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, fractures of the spine, scoliosis and herniated disks. Dr. Crowl joined Advanced Orthopaedics soon after his fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to that, he tutored anatomy, pathology and neuroscience, and served as Assistant Instructor of Anatomy in the Minority Advancement Program at the University of Virginia. Today, he is highly regarded as an expert in conditions of the spine.
Dr. Decker heads our Interventional Pain Medicine Center, where he uses treatment modalities such as medications, exercises, physical therapy, spinal cord stimulation and various coping strategies to enable patients to diminish their painful symptoms while they adapt to their lifestyles.
Dr. Bradley S. Ellison is a hip and knee reconstruction specialist at Advanced Orthopaedics. His practice emphasizes hip and knee joint preservation and reconstruction through the use of innovative surgical techniques, including customized total knee replacements, small incision primary hip and knee replacements, hip arthroscopy, hip resurfacing, partial knee replacements, as well as revision hip and knee joint reconstruction. Dr. Ellison and his team place special focus on minimizing perioperative pain, rapid recovery protocols, and optimizing the experience and satisfaction of patients undergoing hip and knee surgery.
Dr. Fiore specializes in the treatment of congenital and degenerative disorders of the entire spine, from the base of the skull to the tip of the tailbone, as well as traumatic injury to this area. He also specializes in the treatment of adult and pediatric scoliosis, neck and cervical spine disorders, lumbar disc disease, spinal stenosis and reconstructive deformities. He is board certified and a member of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, The Scoliosis Research Society and The North American Spine Society.
Dr. Glowacki has been with Advanced Orthopaedics since 1997. He specializes in all areas of hand, wrist and elbow surgery. He also performs arthroscopy of the wrist and elbow for sports injuries and other arthritic conditions. He performs joint replacement in the hand and is trained in nerve and microsurgery. With his capable team, he takes time to educate and listen to his patients, instilling confidence in the treatment plan.
Marion Herring, MD, focuses on sports medicine and complex problems of the knee, shoulder and elbow. This renowned orthopaedist is subspecialty board certified in sports medicine, and he teaches regionally and nationally on topics including arthroscopic shoulder surgery, rotator cuff injuries, shoulder replacements, shoulder instability, and arm injuries in young throwers. He presently works at St. Francis Medical Center and Henrico Doctors' Parham Hospital.
Dr. Higgs has an extensive background in sports medicine, shoulder surgery and knee surgery. He is fellowship trained and subspecialty certified in orthopaedic sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Higgs is a subspecialist in the treatment of injuries sustained during athletic activities. In treating athletic injuries, Dr. Higgs takes a comprehensive and compassionate approach to the evaluation, diagnosis and the treatment of the athlete using state-of-the-art reconstructive methods that include both nonsurgical and surgical techniques. In addition to the athlete, Dr. Higgs treats injuries sustained to the shoulder, elbow, knee and ankle in all patients. His areas of expertise include complex shoulder reconstruction for rotator cuff injury, shoulder instability, acute traumatic shoulder injury and shoulder arthritis, knee ligament reconstruction, knee cartilage restoration, knee arthritis in the young adult, traumatic knee injuries, acute treatment of sports medicine injuries and advanced arthroscopic techniques.
Dr. Douglas Jessup specializes in the treatment, reconstruction, and total joint replacement of damaged hips and knees. He has performed more than 6,000 total joint replacement procedures. Throughout his career, Dr. Jessup has been actively involved in the orthopaedic community on a statewide and national scale. He has served as president of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society, and was one of the original members of, and served on the board of directors of, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. While practicing as an orthopaedic surgeon, he has been advisor to the implant industry on hip and knee implant and instrumentation design, as well as surgical technique. He has been a design team member of the Foundation Hip System, the Vanguard Complete Knee System, and the Echo Total Hip Stem. Dr. Jessup has spoken internationally and performed joint replacement surgery on four continents.
Dr. Kirby treats a variety of nerve, muscle and bone disorders. As a member of the Spine Disorder Center team, he focuses primarily on problems of the neck and back. He specializes in non-operative spine care using a variety of treatment modalities, including medications, injections and physical therapy. Dr. Kirby also specializes in electromyography and nerve conduction studies. These tests are used in the diagnosis of neurologic and neuromuscular disorders, including carpal tunnel syndrome, radiculopathy (pinched nerves in the neck and back), and peripheral neuropathy (injury to nerves from diseases such as diabetes). He currently sees patients at St. Francis Medical Center and our Shrader Road location.
Dr. McDermott joined Advanced Orthopaedics and Hand Surgery Specialists in 1997, where he practices today as an orthopaedic hand and upper extremity surgeon. His practice focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of hand, wrist, and elbow diseases and injuries. He has specific interests in sports and occupational injuries of the upper extremity and the treatment of children with all types of upper extremity conditions. Dr. McDermott is board certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedics Surgeons with a certificate of added qualification in hand surgery. His background has provided him with considerable experience in the use of arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques as well as non-operative therapeutic and rehabilitative processes.
Dr. Reece holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine, making him ideally suited to provide comprehensive medical care for athletes, sports teams, and active individuals who are looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice and member of the American and Virginia Academy of Family Practice, the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, and the American College of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Joy V. Sharma is a part of a team of hand, wrist, and elbow specialists at Advanced Orthopaedics. He strongly emphasizes the importance of partnering with his patients in tailoring and individualizing treatment plans which may or may not involve surgery. Dr. Sharma trained at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic and utilizes the latest diagnostic and orthopaedic techniques in hand surgery.
Dr. William Van Manen is a board certified foot and ankle surgeon from Houston, Texas who joined Advanced Orthopaedics in 1992. A former football player at Tulane University, Dr. Van Manen treats many sports related injuries and has many years of experience with ankle reconstruction and treatment of Achilles tendon injuries. He excels in non-operative and surgical treatment of both routine and complex disorders of the foot and ankle including congenital, arthritic, and traumatic and sports related conditions. He treats work related injuries and is called upon often for his expertise in by local personal injury attorneys. When you visit with Dr. Van Manen, be assured that you will have his full attention. Dr. Wayne is a physiatrist, a Medical Doctor trained in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He works hand-in-hand with orthopaedic surgeons to diagnose, treat, and direct the rehabilitation of disorders and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. His practice is focused on Electrodiagnostics; studying the electrical properties of nerves and muscles. Patients are commonly referred to Dr. Wayne for symptoms of numbness, tingling, weakness and pain, to be evaluated using nerve conduction studies and electromyography. The most common clinical entities include: carpal tunnel syndrome, neuropathies, and radiculopathies (pinched nerves in the neck and/or back). Kenneth Zaslav, MD is internationally known for his expertise in sports medicine, cartilage restoration and conditions of the shoulder. Among his many distinctions, he is board certified in orthopaedic surgery, and has completed fellowships in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. Along with serving as President of Advanced Orthopaedics, Dr. Zaslav is also a Clinical Professor at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University, and he has been a visiting professor in medical schools in China, Chile, Mexico and Venezuela. He is currently affiliated with St. Francis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
Dr. Cyrus S. Kump specializes in arthroplasty of the hip and knee, trauma surgery and fracture surgery, and arthroscopy of the shoulder and knee.
This Colonel and US Army Reservist is board certified in orthopaedic surgery, is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Kump also serves as an orthopaedic surgeon to athletes at Virginia Military Institute.
