St. Francis Medical Center Begins Construction of New Medical Pavilion to Open Fall 2013
60,000 square-foot facility meeting growing patient demand for specialized services
Nov. 16, 2012
At a ground-breaking ceremony today on the St. Francis Medical Center campus, leaders of Bon Secours Virginia Health System kicked-off construction of the St. Francis Medical Pavilion, a 60,000 square-foot medical office building. The Pavilion will house Advanced Orthopaedics, along with other Bon Secours-affiliated primary care and multi-specialty practices and a pharmacy.
“Chesterfield and its neighboring counties continue to experience incredible growth, and St. Francis Medical Center has emerged as one of this region’s most popular hospitals,” said Mark Gordon, CEO, Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center. “Many affiliated physician practices are part of our campus, and we are proud of our long-term collaborative relationship with Advanced Orthopaedics. We look forward to bringing more practices and services here as St. Francis continues to grow.”
Currently located in another medical office building on the St. Francis campus, Advanced Orthopaedics has experienced an increase in demand for its services, resulting in the need for an expansion and recruitment of additional physicians. In the new Pavilion, Advanced Orthopaedics will occupy the entire second floor and will double the size of its clinical facilities, with additional space for its growing physical and hand therapy practices. Other specialized services and primary care practices will occupy the first floor, as well as the Good Health Pharmacy, offering on-site convenience for Bon Secours employees and patients who need prescriptions filled or over-the-counter items.
“Bon Secours is committed to providing excellence in care and services to patients throughout south Richmond,” said Peter J. Bernard, CEO, Bon Secours Virginia Health System. “Today we celebrate an important milestone on the St. Francis campus as we break ground on this exciting new facility. The St. Francis Medical Pavilion will help us to better serve one of the fastest growing regions of the Commonwealth.”
Situated at the campus round-about at the intersection of St. Francis Boulevard and St. Francis Avenue, the St. Francis Medical Pavilion is designed with exterior elevations of brick, cast stone, stained wood that complement the urban Tuscan vernacular found throughout the medical campus. A terracotta tile roof adds to the texture and scale of the design. The Pavilion has been designed for improved efficiency and safety, with energy efficient windows and a covered patient drop-off area that provides ease of access into the building. A professional medical space planner will work with tenants to custom design each suite to tenant’s specifications and needs. Completion of the St. Francis Medical Pavilion is projected for Fall 2013. Lend Lease DASCO, a national leader in the development, financing, leasing and management of medical office buildings, will develop and manage the project. The St. Francis Medical Pavilion has been designed by Odell Architects with whom Lend Lease worked on the Bon Secours Watkins Centre projects. It is the third addition to St. Francis Medical Center, a 130-bed, full-service acute care hospital which opened in 2005. The campus includes a medical office building with six floors of physician office space and an outpatient surgery center, a free-standing Bon Secours Cancer Institute and a free-standing primary care office building which includes the hospital’s onsite child care center.
