St. Mary’s Ranks Highly in National Awards
Hospital Ranks in top five percent in nation in four categories
RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 20, 2010) – Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital is among the top five percent in the nation in stroke, prostatectomy, GI and critical care, according to a comprehensive annual study released Wednesday by HealthGrades, the leading independent health care ratings organization. The hospital also ranked in the top 10 percent for pulmonary care.
“We are honored to be recognized for awards that are directly related to quality care and excellent patient outcomes,” said Toni Ardabell, CEO Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital. “Our medical team is comprised of dedicated and compassionate individuals who work to provide excellent care, and each of them has been a contributor in this recognition.”
According to the Thirteenth Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America study, top-rated hospitals had a 53 percent lower mortality rate than the U.S. national average for 17 procedures and diagnoses ranging from bypass surgery to treatment for heart attack. When the top-rated hospitals were compared to the poorest performers, there was an even greater quality gap: a 72 percent lower risk of mortality.
