Commonwealth Catholic Charities

Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC), an independent nonprofit organization that works closely with Bon Secours Virginia's Employee Assistance Program (EAP), specializes in providing counseling services to individuals of all ages, families and groups. Services are offered in English and Spanish.

In fiscal year 2008, staff provided counseling support and guidance to 2,544 individuals, including children and teens.

Individual, Couples and Family Counseling

Clinical social workers provide counseling to individuals and families seeking help to cope with emotional difficulties including marital, parenting, anger management and domestic violence issues. CCC serves many vulnerable and underserved individuals and is often the voice for children experiencing post-traumatic stress. CCC offers these services on a sliding scale fee so all individuals and families in need may receive professional, compassionate guidance.

Preventive and Educational Services

These specialized services are designed to reduce incidents of domestic violence by helping clients recognize, understand and cope with stressful situations.

Batterer Intervention Program (BIP) - CCC is the largest provider of batterer intervention services in Central Virginia. This program is designed to break the cycle of domestic violence where it begins by changing the behavior of perpetrators of violence. The 24-week program is provided to groups of individuals court ordered to participate.

Anger Management - This is an 8-week, skills building course. Learning and practicing anger management skills promotes positive communication and conflict resolution leading to improved relationships within families and the community.

Parenting Classes - The focus is to improve parenting skills, decrease parental frustration and encourage positive parent/child interaction.

School Social Work

CCC offers counseling to individual students (and their families) at St. Edward and St. Benedict schools in Richmond. Counselors are available to the entire student body in the event of a crisis situation.
