Children's Services
Pediatric Psychiatry

Pediatric, or child, psychiatry is a subspecialty that diagnoses and treats mental health concerns, behavior disorders, and emotional difficulties in children and adolescents. A specialist in this field is called a Pediatric Psychiatrist. A Pediatric Psychiatrist has a medical degree and can prescribe medications to their patients.

Children with mental health issues have concerns that are different from those of adult mental health issues. Pediatric Psychiatrists are expertly trained to help you and your child work through these unique concerns. We partner with many different people, including you, to develop the best treatment approach, specifically designed for your child. As part of your child's treatment, a Pediatric Psychiatrist may recommend group or family counseling, prescribe medications, or consult with your child's primary care physician or other physicians. A Pediatric Psychiatrist might also consult with other professionals, including school counselors and administrators or social agencies.

Some of the conditions for which your child might see a Pediatric Psychiatrist include:

  • ADHD
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Behavior problems
  • Depression
  • Drug and alcohol addiction
  • Eating disorders
  • Family problems
  • Learning disorders
  • Oppositional defiance disorder

Our Pediatric Psychiatrists are available for inpatient and outpatient evaluation and treatment services. At Bon Secours, our goal is to provide your child with excellent care to help him or her lead a happy and productive life.
