Learn About Our Pediatric Care Teams
Pediatric Intensivists

When your child has a critical illness or injury that requires careful monitoring, he or she may be sent to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). It's normal for both you and your child to feel frightened or unsure at times like this. That's why we do everything we can to make the experience go as smoothly—and safely—as possible. At Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital, you can rest assured that your child will receive the best and most compassionate care available from our Pediatric Intensivists.

Pediatric Intensivists are physicians with specialized training in the care of critically ill children. We provide services for children who require ventilator management, as well as those in the PICU who have conditions such as shock, infection (sepsis), infection in the lining of the brain (meningitis), brain infection (encephalitis), severe seizures, and much more. We work closely with pediatric subspecialists to care for children after complex surgical procedures that include the management of postoperative pain. We also offer pediatric sedation services for children who are undergoing imaging tests such as CT scans.

The expert care doesn't stop there. We follow patients through their PICU experience and participate in planning after your child is discharged for continuity of care. For those children with chronic conditions, we work closely with both you and your child to offer the support you need. Whatever his or her needs, we will treat your child as one of our own.
