At Bon Secours, we're helping to train the next generation of physicians. Together with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), the Bon Secours Richmond Health System has created a new family medicine residency program that uses the curriculum and the 32 years' experience of the Blackstone Family Practice Residency. Known as the St. Francis Family Medicine Residency Program, this VCU-affiliated residency began in 2005 and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
The St. Francis Family Medicine Residency Program serves western Chesterfield County and surrounding areas in suburban Richmond. Our highly skilled faculty includes a mix of rural- and suburban-based academicians and clinicians. Our subspecialty preceptors are drawn from a premier network of Bon Secours-affiliated physicians.
Housed in a new, state-of-the-art facility that caters to the needs of resident medical education and clinical care, the program is located less than 15 minutes from St. Francis Medical Center. Although most inpatient rotations occur at St. Francis, residents may also have the opportunity to rotate through St. Mary's Hospital, the largest Bon Secours Richmond facility. Second- and third-year residents receive 4 weeks of rural medical training at the Blackstone Family Practice Center as part of their outpatient rotations. As employees of Bon Secours, residents receive all major employer benefits, including health and term life insurance, maternity/paternity leave and retirement.
