what's been going on
The St. Mary's master site plan and its findings are the result of a weeklong Charrette, held in November 2009, which sought input from Bon Secours administration, employees and medical staff, along with neighbors, community leaders and Henrico County and City of Richmond officials. Since the St. Mary's Charatte in 2009, the hospital has taken part in and continues to progress in many exciting projects in the hospital and around the St. Mary's campus.
Below you will find information about some of our most recent projects. As each continue forward, we will use this site as a means to communicate progress as it happens to help ensure you remain involved.
St. Mary's Guest House
Operated by the St. Mary’s Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary, the Guest House Program is part of Bon Secours’ faith-based, not-for-profit mission to provide good help to those in need. As you know, we took into consideration your suggestions and altered the plans for the exterior of the house to what you see in the final renderings, and we thank you for your valued input! Right now we are currently in the process of securing special use permits we which hope to have acquired in February.
The Guest House will have 16 guest rooms as well as common areas where families of patients can eat, relax, work, play and pray. It is designed to be available for the families of patients who are from out of town and may have either prolonged stays in our hospital or are here on frequent overnight visits. For example, it can serve the families of patients undergoing extensive heart surgery or families with babies in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. More about St. Mary's Guest House >>
Expansion of St. Mary's Emergency Departments
The St. Mary's Hospital Emergency Department has been undergoing major renovations since 2012 to bring you the latest and greatest in specialty care. New features include a distinct Pedestrian entry, added treatment rooms, including a new adult clinical area with 13 treatment rooms, and a dedicated 13-room Pediatric ED with a separate waiting area. When parents bring their children to St. Mary’s for emergency care, the only adults they will encounter are the doctors and nurses. All services and care in the Pediatric ED will be for children. On January 1, we opened the initial services for our Senior Emergency Department. It’s part of Bon Secours Senior Services which is dedicated to providing specialized care to our patients 65 and older, their families and caregivers. More about the St. Mary's Senior Emergency Department >>
The final phase of construction will be largely external and will include an expanded ambulance canopy and driveway modifications, which are intended to take place late this year or in early 2014.
Westhampton School Site
Bon Secours is continuing to work to finalize the types of services we will provide at the new Westhampton School site. As we have indicated in the past, we’ve narrowed the list to Oncology and/or Orthopaedic services. We’ll keep you posted as we make final determinations on the services
