To provide compassionate, quality healthcare services to those in need, include the poor and dying, for the purpose of alleviating human suffering and bringing people to wholeness in the midst of pain and loss.

At Bon Secours Richmond Health System we are committed to bringing people to health and wholeness.

Spiritual Care

Our Spiritual Care Services enable us to live our mission. Through our pastoral care staff, we provide services that are designed to address the spiritual dimensions of illness.

There are times in our lives when we are more aware of our own spirituality. This can often occur during periods of illness. We may feel a yearning for spiritual support. Indeed, spiritual health is a vital component of our overall sense of health and well being.

Bon Secours Richmond Health System Pastoral Care Department commits to:

  • Provide service to you twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week
  • Offer sacramental ministry
  • Assist with advance medical directives
  • Support opportunities for spiritual reflection
  • Connect you with your own clergy or faith community as you desire
  • Provide confidential counsel to you and your family
  • Present opportunities for corporate worship
  • Refer you to appropriate religious resources and other materials
  • Pray with you!

Center for Spirituality & Leadership

Overview of Center
All of us have a vocation, a deep callling to serve something greater than ourselves. The Center for Spirituality & Leadership exists to support the many efforts through our organization to celebrate this sense of vocation and to join our varied gifts in making a difference. We are seeking:

  • leaders who experience a deep personal connection to our mission and willing to shape their leadership in keeping with our core values and an authentic spirituality, and
  • employees willing to share leadership in building a strong and vibrant culture of compassion, healing, and hope.

Ministry Leadership Series
Open enrollment programs for all Bon Secours Richmond employees during the initial year will include:

  • Abraham: Father of Religious Diversity: An inter-religious dialogue between Muslims, Jews and Christians with emphasis on complementary approaches to healing and wholeness.
  • Engaging in Honest Conversation: A two-day workshop to explore ways to bring one’s full self to a point of honest dialogue and create a safe space for others to be able to do the same.
  • Healing History: Participants will explore opportunities for healing and reconciliation that promote a culture of inclusiveness, mutual respect, appreciation of unique talents and fairness.
  • Pastoral Care Retreat Presentation by Michael Henderson Forgiveness: Breaking the Chains of Hate.
  • Bon Secours Richmond Leader Day presentation by Joe Holt, Workplace Spirituality and Engagement.
  • Other Services– Theological reflection groups– Team retreats– Individualized mentoring
In collaboration with Human Resources and Mission Services, the Center searches out and/or creates new programs to respond to the evolving needs and challenges of the Bon Secours Richmond healthcare ministry.

The Vision
By the year 2009, Bon Secours Richmond will be recognized for the men and women of different faith traditions who not only model the integration of ministry and business interests, but can pass on these traditions to the next generation.

Mentoring
Mentoring is at the heart of the Center for Spirituality and Leadership. It is also the best way to share knowledge, experience, and expertise throughout an organization. As employees participate in the variety of programs the Center will offer, their interaction with colleagues and teachers will help to further their own personal growth, understanding of this healing ministry and commitment to our future.

Timeline of Program
The Center for Spirituality and Leadership will offer a nine-month program of Ministry Leadership Formation (MLF), followed by a second nine-month program of Ministry Leadership Mentoring. Completion of the MLF is required to start the Mentoring program. An initial three-day intensive will be followed by a series of two or three-day intensives scheduled every other month; off months will be used for a variety of experiential and action learning assignments.

The program is divided across three dimensions of formation - vocation, stewardship, and responsible action. Each dimension will be given a period of three to four months, and the themes chosen for each period are as follows:

  • Discerning and Deepening My Call to Ministry Leadership
  • Becoming a Responsible Steward of Catholic Healthcare Ministry
  • Building a Prophetic, Transformational Community
