Advocacy
Lobbies for healthcare and social justice issues when the General Assembly is in session.
Asthma
Works to improve the quality of life for children with asthma. In 1996, initiated a school-age asthma program in area schools. In 2000, helped to secure a large federal grant to address the problem of pediatric asthma.
Works in partnership with the Central Virginia Asthma Coalition and Controlling Asthma in the Richmond Metropolitan Area.
Care at the End of Life
Offers palliative care, consultation, bereavement care and grief support groups for patients and their families.
Care-A-Van
Offers immunizations and free medical services to adults and children who have no health insurance. Establishes a mobile health clinic in.
Children's Health Insurance
Finds eligible applicants and helps them enroll in the Commonwealth Children's Health Insurance Program. In 2002, a new full-time position was created to oversee this service.
Community Partnerships Initiative
Provides funds for organizations wishing to join with Bon Secours in building healthier communities.
Every Woman's Life
This is a grant funded by the Virginia Department of Heath through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It provides breast and cervical cancer screenings for women ages 40-64 who meet certain financial criteria. If needed, case management, diagnostic tests and treatment are included. Housing Partnerships
Improves the quality of living conditions for poor people. Employees have constructed two new homes in partnership with Interfaith Housing, Habitat for Humanity, and other housing organizations.
Parish Nurse Network
Offers holistic health service training to RNs who volunteer to help church congregations by serving as educators and counselors.
Safe Harbor
Houses abused women and children. Open since 2000, Safe Harbor attempts to break the cycle of domestic abuse and is in partnership with Commonwealth Catholic Charities, Henrico County, the VCU Sexual Assault Program, and the YWCA.
Spiritual Care Services
Offers confidential counseling, assists with advance medical directives and referrals to faith resources, and prays with patients and families. Chaplains are always on call.
To provide compassionate, quality healthcare services to those in need, including the poor and dying, for the purpose of alleviating human suffering and bringing people to wholeness in the midst of pain and loss.
