Mission Statement
The Mission of the
Bon Secours Health System is to bring compassion to healthcare and to be good help to those in need, especially those who are poor and dying. As a system of caregivers we commit ourselves to help bring people and communities to health and wholeness as part of the healing ministry of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church.

Good Education

We are Bon Secours Medical Group with more than 200 primary care and specialty care physicians.

We are part of the Bon Secours Richmond Health System, which serves Central Virginia as a nationally recognized healthcare system with four hospital campuses, medical office buildings and numerous freestanding outpatient centers, and more than 7,000 employees.

Bon Secours was founded on Catholic principles that have held us in good stead for nearly two centuries. At the same time, we embrace all people who share our mission of providing care for those who need help.

Founded in Paris in 1824, the Sisters of Bon Secours devoted themselves to caring for the sick and dying. In 1881, the Sisters arrived in the United States where they continued their work of visiting the poor, the sick and the dying in their homes.

Over time, they built a multi-state network of hospitals, long-term care facilities and healthcare services that includes Bon Secours Richmond. Bon Secours means “good help” in French, and it is the legacy and guiding principle of Bon Secours Richmond.

Today, Bon Secours Richmond Health System is part of Bon Secours Health System, a $2.4 billion not-for-profit Catholic health system, with 18 acute-care hospitals, a psychiatric hospital, five nursing care facilities, five assisted living facilities, and 15 home care and hospice programs. With more than 16,000 caregivers Bon Secours Health System helps people in seven states, primarily on the East Coast. Learn more at www.bshsi.com.

In July 2008, Bon Secours Richmond and Bon Secours Hampton Roads combined to form Bon Secours Virginia — making it one of the largest health systems in Virginia. Bon Secours is the only faith-based integrated health delivery network in the Commonwealth and will serve as a model for Catholic health systems nationally.
